3.30 - 5 Trans Activism 101

Phoebe Tunstall

Building an empowering community: Trans groups seem regularly split along class lines - academic split away from non-academic, the white trans people from trans people of colour, middle-upper class from poor and working class, mtf spectrum from ftm spectrum, straight from queer, assimilationist from genderqueer, and so on.

Phoebe Tunstall will open up a discussion on the sort of issues that come up, and how they can be dealt with to build a trans community that fosters solidarity between it's members rather than recreating oppression found on the outside.

3 - 5 Sexual Empowerment

Ignacio Rivera

Goal: The goal of this workshop is to examine socially constructed norms around sex and sexuality.

We will self-identify sexual empowerment and use that as a context in which to begin to understand the pathology of sex and how these ideas contribute to homophobia, transphobia, the criminalization of sexual deviant and policies that enforce the nuclear family, heterosexism and pro-procreation sex. This workshop will also aid in providing language and tools for participants to begin to walk a life long path to sexual empowerment.

5 - 6.30 On Being An Artist Who Speaks

James Green

Jamison Green only wanted to be a writer of fiction when he was growing up. He never anticipated he would become one of the world's most powerful voices for trans health, safety, and civil rights, which has been very much a non-fiction enterprise. In this workshop, Mr. Green will present samples of his written and spoken work, discuss the technical differences between them, and explore what he finds both challenging and rewarding about being an artist who speaks.

7 - 9 The Genderqueer Playhouse

"A relaxed evening of gender non-conformity"

The Genderqueer playhouse

Josephine Wilson presents a veritable cornucopia of lounge-like, cabaret-esque, burlesq-ish gender-kaleidoscopic talent. You will be educated by Bovis explaining genderqueer terminology that could otherwise confuse and disorientate, whilst Officer Clarence polices our gender irregularities. Meanwhile, Miss Jet demonstrates in her usual shy and retiring fashion her own particular brand of queer femme-ininity. And then, before you can even begin to recover, Thomas will be serenading whilst also dazzling us with his fashion stylings. As if that wasn't enough, Ingo delivers storytime and Jason reclaims the "moob".
