The Brixton Brady Award for Beautful Things
It's with a mixture of pride and awkwardness that I can announce the winner of this year's Brixton Brady award is... me - Jason!
At first I thought I shouldn't accept the award. Partly because I'm one of the producers and partly because I'm so embarrassed about it. The idea of the award though was to encourage new work and it has done just that. It's the best encouragement I could have had for developing new work. I'm pretty certain that Brixton Brady would approve. She certainly would have liked me to keep up the performing.
Something she would have found absolutely hilarious though, is that I've had the collection tin in my flat for the last few months and have, on occasion borrowed a pound here and there out of it. Of course, I was going to pay it all back by the time someone won, but here I am winning IOUs to myself! I couldn't ask for a better prize though. Thank you!
Transgender Day of Remembrance banner by Lucas McKenna
With the help of funding from Awards for All, Transfabulous commissioned Lucas McKenna to make this beautiful banner for the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance service in London.
Lucas had previously made another banner for Transfabulous - this is the one to look out for on the Pride march!
The Transfabulous Award
Our friends at Chroma magazine run an annual writing competition. We were proud to sponsor a prize for the best short story either by a trans writer or exploring trans themes.
The winner of the 2006 Transfabulous Award was Brynn Binnell for his funny and moving story "Spawn of the Regime".
